Janet Mae (Stevens) Decelles, 74, of Coventry, loving wife of 47 years to Gerald L. Decelles Jr., passed away peacefully Sunday, February 19, 2017.
Born in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Leo and Emma (Clossin) Stevens, she grew up and lived in Gallitzin, Missouri, and Virginia before moving to Coventry 40 years ago. A 1961 graduate of Gallitzin High School.She earned her nursing degree before entering the military. Janet proudly served her country in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War. While Janet was serving in the Army, she was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Yokohama, Japan, and Fort Belvoir, Virginia. She was a nurse at Manchester Manor for several years, and at Vernon Manor for 17 years, retiring in 2007 as the director of nursing services. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.mIn addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Christopher Hahesy and his wife, Allison, of Simi Valley, California, Gerald Decelles III, of Sandefjord, Norway, and Renee Decelles, of Enfield; four grandchildren, Jake and Zachary Richters, and Tyler and Cody Hahesy; and a brother, L. Ronald Stevens and his wife, Betty, of Gallitzin.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, Feb. 24, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Rockville Fish and Game Club, Fish and Game Road, Vernon. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society , 825 Brook St., I-91 Tech Center, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
