You might want to keep the candles.

In attendance at St. Elizabeth's (E. Baltimore St.) one Sunday I noticed something quite extrodinary and Biblical-esk.

With a large crowd in attendance at the church, Father Robert Sisk (born March 21, 1933) achieved something worthy of being noted by more than myself.

As reported to his congregation about half way through, Fr. Robert informed us that a small creature had eaten through the church wires resulting in a power outage.

As we entered the church for service on this day, light came only from through the paint glass windows and burning candles set throughout. As the lector approached the microphone and began to speak, no amplification existed.

I noticed veteran Sisk clear his throat one time before he preached the Gospel. From then until the finish of mass Fr. Robert seemed unaffected by the lack of microphone and completed a good Sunday leaving me feeling spirited and learned. I felt as though we were experiencing one of the apostles preaching to his people in an outside gathering place somewhere in the holyland during the early days of our history.

Apart from acknowledging Fr. Robert's efforts, musical leaders and our lector also assisted in completing the mass in face of the electrical outage. It was different, but neat to experience Church relying on the Churches own lungs and manmade power.

At the end of mass Fr. Robert personally farewelled the congregation at the door.

Way to go Father Sisk.

Reverend Robert Sisk will dearly be missed. His warmth, kindness, and helpfulness was unmeasurable. He brought spiritual strength to us and for that we are grateful. In speaking with a loved one about his passing, they said, "He was a Fine Man and Served us Well". I agree. From myself, my family who cherished Reverend Robert's presence, and on behalf and as a member of his Parish, thank you! We are thinking of his family and praying for them during this sad time. I can picture him playing football in Heaven with other "greats" and cleaning his forehead with his Pittsburgh Steelers Scarf and then visiting the Snow Ball Stand to pay for a refresher with a dollar out of his Steelers Wallet.........both of which he was such a fan of and showed off to his tolerant congregation in Baltimore. Peace out and God Bless Father Robert!
