Fred Schmidhammer Obituary

Fred Schmidhammer, 81 a resident of Garvey Manor formerly of Cresson died February 8, 2024 at UPMC Altoona. Born October 21,1942 in Altoona the son of Frederick W. Sr. and Clara (Olmis) Schmidhammer. Preceded in death by an infant son Randy in 1977 and a sister Susan Kurtz. Survived by his wife the former Joyce Dickson whom he married May 29, 1965, at St. Mary’s Church, Altoona and daughters, Robin (Sam) McClure Jr. and Renee (Todd) Mahalko, grandchildren, Brittany (Brad) Brenneman, Zachary McClure, Jorden McClure and Sydney Mahalko, great grandchildren, Lilliana and Barrett and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred retired in 2009 from St. Francis University as Assistant Director of the Physical Plant. Fred was a former member of Hollidaysburg Boro Council, Hollidaysburg Jaycees where he served as president 2 times, Blair County Planning Commission, Hollidaysburg Band Parents and Eucharistic Minister at Immaculate Conception Chapel at St. Francis University, Loretto and Ski Club at Raystown Lake. Fred enjoyed woodworking, electrical work, boating, camping and water skiing. Member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Cresson where Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday the Rev. Leo Arnone celebrant. Committal Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. Friends will be received from 4 to 6 pm Monday at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church Street, Gallitzin where a vigil service will be held Monday. The family suggest donations be made to St. Francis University Men’s Basketball Team in Fred’s memory.
