Ronald A.” Soups” Szpala 79, Cresson died February 23, 2024, at his Home. Born April 8, 1944, in Gallitzin the son of the late Alvin and Julia (Lesko) Szpala. Preceded in death by a sons Michael on December 28, 2014, and Jeffrey on November 28, 2021, and brother James on June 10, 2012. Survived by his wife the former Nancy DelGrande whom he married December 29, 1962, at St. Francis Xavier Church, Cresson and these children, Patricia (Ronald) Biter, Rhonda Simanski (Royce), Lannette (Murray) Fetzer, Ronald Jr. (Kimberly), Maureen (Theodore) Jones, Adam (Jen), Joy (Chuck) Gill, and Matthew (partner John), daughter-in-law Jenny Szpala, 25 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a special great-grand daughter Lila Bright Gill who was born early the day of Ron’s passing, a sister Sharon (James) Madonna who always gave him a 2 dollar bill for his birthday and numerous nieces and nephews. Ron worked for NAPA, Fisher Auto Parts. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Former member of the Sankertown VFW and Cresson Fire Company. Member of the Italian Club, Cresson and worked as a bartender. Coached Little League in Cresson. He loved going to the beach on family vacation and the Tennessee Mountains, hunting, and fishing. Member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where Funeral Mas will be celebrated at 10am Tuesday the Rev. Leo Arnone celebrant. Committal church cemetery, Friends will be received from 4 to 8 pm Monday at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church Street, Gallitzin. Military Rites by Sankertown VFW and other local military organizations.
