On January 3, 2019 Dorothy (Dottie) Marie Litzinger Cupples joined her one true love, Andrew Milton (Milt) Cupples after over two decades waiting to be reunited. For years Milt called her his “saint” and now they are dancing together in heaven.
Dorothy was born on Armistice Day (Nov 11) 1929, daughter of Catherine Syrilda Benton and Leonard Francis Litzinger. She was also loved and cared for by her step father, Donald Benton. The youngest of five children, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James Litzinger, Leonard Litzinger, Jr and Paul Litzinger and one sister, Syrilda Gardner.
She is survived by two children - Andrew Cupples, Jr, of Long Beach California, and his daughter Rebecca Cupples of Philadelphia and Catherine Cupples Walter, her husband Donald (Beaver) Walter and their daughters Andrea Marie Plouse, Emily June Walter and Allison Jean Walter. Her four beautiful granddaughters have all inherited her spirit, strength and stubbornness.
Dorothy worked hard all her life and cared for everyone. For many years she was an active volunteer for the church, charity organizations and the democratic party. After raising her children and caring for both her mother and her mother-in-law, she took a job when others would have retired as a dispatcher for Yellow Cab Company. She really enjoyed her job and her voice on the radio was well known across Altoona. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament from the time she was a child and her faith saw her through every challenge she faced.
During her last year, Dorothy was a resident of the Village at Morrison’s Cove. Prior to that she shared a home with her niece Cathy Kent, and her three nephews, Bobby, Doug and Jimmy. Doug was also there waiting to meet her in heaven.
She will be missed by all, and those that loved her know she will always be watching over them. You can help celebrate her life by visiting the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Sunday Jan. 6 at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church Street, Gallitzin, Pa 16641 where a vigil service will be held Sunday. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Monday at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin the Rev. Albert Ledoux celebrant. Committal Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.gibbonsfunerals.com
