Elizabeth (Betty) McCarthy 89, Lilly passed away peacefully December 15, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born July 8, 1930 in Lilly the daughter of the late Lawrence and Anna (Wojcik) Sarneski. She was the last and youngest surviving member of her family. Preceded in death by an infant daughter Rose Ann McCarthy, her 1st husband Joseph William Krumenaker whom she was married to from 1956 until his death in 1965 and 2nd husband Howard Michael McCarthy whom she was married to from 1967 until his death in 1983, her 15 siblings, Frank, Andrew, Mary Stock, John, Anna Palus, Angeline Dudek, Michael, Roy (Olive) Sophie Librizzi, Annette Miserendino, Stanley, Walter, Victoria Stevens, Benjamin and Joseph. Survived by her children, Warren Krumenaker, Marie Zavalanski, David Krumenaker and Brigid McCarthy, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Betty worked as a dietician for the Cresson Tuberculosis Sanatorium for 14 year until 1965 and St. Brigid’s Convent from 1966-1973. She was a devoted Catholic who never missed a Holy Day and said at least 2 rosaries daily, one to thank God for all her blessings and one for whoever needed it. While she was an active member of Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church, Lilly, she often attended Holy Name Church, Ebensburg whenever her grandsons Sean and Ryan were altar servers, sang in the choir, or played musical instruments during mass. She was a kind selfless, wonderful woman would do anything for anyone. She was devoted to her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their baseball, soccer and basketball games. She enjoyed volunteering at Holy Name School in the cafeteria and on Festival Noodle Committee where she made lots of friends in the process. She like to crochet, sew and watch old western movies. She played numerous scrabble games every day and everyone always wanted to be on her team where there was a game of horseshoes. She was the best mother, grandmother, and friend that anyone could ever imagine. Her family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Mark Ratchford, and all the doctors, nurses, and other personnel at Conemaugh Hospital for the impeccable care that she received during her lifetime. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church Street, Gallitzin where a vigil service will be held Wednesday. Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at 10 am Thursday at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Catholic Church, Lilly the Rev. Matthew and Rev. Brian Warchola celebrants.
