Jon Mark McTavish, 70, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on September 21, 2019, following an extended illness. Jon was born August 21, 1949 in Tunnelhill to Francis and Kathleen (Carrig) McTavish. He was a 1968 graduate of Penn Cambria High School and a 1970 graduate of the Williamsport Area Community College where he studied machining. He worked in the machine shops at Conrail/Norfolk Southern for more than 30 years before retiring in 2005.Jon was a loving and devoted husband and father, who dedicated his life to his family. His greatest joy was spending time at home with those he loved, and spent countless hours talking, telling stories, and laughing with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He also loved hunting and fishing, being outdoors, reading, woodworking, and cooking.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carole, his high school sweetheart who he married on August 29, 1970 at St. Joseph’s Church in Coupon, PA; daughters Lori (Don) Layo of Cresson; Lisa (Clayton) Spencer of Coupon; Sara (Jason) Davis of Roswell, GA; grandchildren Tylor, Liam, Jonathan, Nora, Taylor and Nyles; brother, Tom (Cynthia), sister Cindy, and sisters-in-law Linda, Patricia, and Darlene; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved son, Ian; and brothers Francis, Raymond, Charlie, Ronnie and Larry. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m.on Monday, September 23, 2019 at St. Demetrius Church in Gallitzin, PA. Funeral mass immediately following at 10:00 a.m. Committal at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
