Joseph L. Ruffley 93, Gallitzin, died April 21, 2018 at Hillview Rehabilitation Center, Altoona. He was born July 23, 1924 in Gallitzin: the son of the late Francis and Mary (Lawn) Ruffley. Preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Petyak, brothers Francis “Jake” William, John, James and sisters Marie Conrad and Gen Buck. Survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Stella Wisk, whom he married June 3, 1950 St. Patrick Catholic Church and these children: Kenneth (Nancy) – Cincinnati, OH, Jo Ann Hill – Pittsburgh, Barbara Petyak – Gallitzin, David (Sunny) - Silt, CO, Carol – Ebensburg and Lynn (Rick) Poropatich – Cresson, 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. Last member of his family. Worked for James E. Van Zandt Medical Center in Building Management. Army Veteran of WW II having received the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Member of Gallitzin American Legion, The Coffee Club and Tourist Council, former member of Summit Country Club. Joe was a railroad buff and enjoyed golfing. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am Wednesday at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin the Rev. Albert Ledoux celebrant. Committal St. Patrick Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church Street, Gallitzin where a vigil service will be held. Military Rites by Gallitzin American Legion and other local military organizations. The family suggest donations be made to Tourist Council or Gallitzin Fire Co.
