Vernon J. Ocilka 70, Gallitzin died December 4, 2019 at his home. Born September 4, 1949 in Gallitzin the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Mastalski) Ocilka. Preceded in death by his sister Darlene Mahalko on June 18, 2010 and her husband Ed. Survived by his Fiance Debbie Husick a nephew and his wife Todd and Renee Mahalko and their daughter Sydney, an aunt and numerous cousins also his beloved dogs Otis and Daisy. Vernon worked for 17 years at Beth Mine 33, Ebensburg on Gallitzin Tunnels for a couple years, at Blair County Prison, and as  Deputy Sheriff for Cambria County. A Navy Seal serving 2 tours in the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal. Vietnam Campaign Medal with Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with Ribbons and one bronze Star. A 1967 graduate of Penn Cambria High school. A member of Gallitzin American Legion, Sankertown VFW and Gallitzin Moose. Vernon loved doing yard work. A member of St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin where Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday the Rev. Albert Ledoux celebrant. Committal St. Mary Cemetery. At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing or visitation. The family suggest donations be made to Gallitzin Fire Co or Cambria Alliance Ambulance Service in Vernon memory.
