H. Connell Lang (89 years old)

Connie Lang was born on February 28, 1931 in Cresson, Pennsylvania. Mother – Helen Connell, Father – George M. Lang.  He married Joyce Skagerberg on June 16th, 1956. Loving and devoted father he is survived by his four children, H. Connell Jr., Denver, Colorado, Philip M. Lang, Oxford, Pennsylvania, Suzanne Lang, Hughesville, Maryland and Melissa Taylor (Glen Taylor husband), Denver, Colorado. Grandchildren; Calvin Lang, Steven Lang, Ben Lang, Lauren Lang, Katherine Lang and Bailey Taylor. Surviving sisters Barbara Ferazzi, Virginia Connell and brother Thomas Lang. H.C. graduated from St. Francis College with a degree in Business (Accounting) in 1953 and joined the Navy following Officer’s Candidate School. While stationed in Washington DC he attended Georgetown Law School. Following the death of his father he departed the Navy to take over the Lang Insurance Agency in 1956. The Cambria County Savings & Loan originated in Lang’s office and H.C. operated as the Managing Officer since 1964 and in 1985 became President of the S & L.  After retiring in 1995 H.C. continued to operate as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the S&L, until it was sold to Penn Crest Bank in 2016. In addition, he established the Lang Real Estate Agency in the early 1960’s and served on the on the Cambria/Somerset Board of Realtors and held a rare SRA title to perform commercial & residential appraisals.  H.C. received an honorary Doctorate degree from St. Francis University in 2003, recognized as a prominent business leader that freely used his God-given talents to promote partnership among industry, education, and community. He served on the Board of Trustees at the Mount Aloysius College and on the President’s Board at St. Francis University for over 20 years. He sat on the Board of Governors at the Cresson Summit Country Club and was a 30-year member of the Cambria County Industrial Development Corp. He also performed the role of treasurer for the Cresson Borough. H. C. was an avid skier and golfer, he loved playing golf with his local buddies in Pennsylvania and at his winter home in Hilton Head, South Carolina.  H.C. enjoyed snow skiing and did so up until his 81st birthday.  He was a well-known Penn State Nittany Lions fan, he and Joyce attended home games every fall with good friends. H.C. was active, a regular on the tread mill and morning mass at St. Aloysius until diagnosed with Leukemia 5 weeks ago. He died peacefully on April 27, 2020 surrounded by his children. Preceding him in death are his parents George M. and Helen Lang, his wife Joyce, his brother George & sisters Ann Marie and Marcy. Due to PA COVID19 rules, a private mass (no viewing) will be held at St. Francis Xavier church in Cresson on Saturday May 2nd at 11:30am.
