Joseph Edward “Josie” Kent, 72, of Gallitzin, passed away August 18th, 2018 at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 6, 1945 in Gallitzin son of the late Earle and Irene (Halasz) Kent. He was preceded in death by brothers Earl, James, Douglas, Robert, and Gary and sisters Cheryl Leyo and Beverly Glass and Deborah.
Surviving are his children: Melissa (John) Long of Loretto and Shawn (Lisa) Kent of Altoona; five grandchildren: Gabryelle Long, Brooke Welsh, Colton Long, Aidan Kent, and Ava Kent; his brother: Ronald- Indiana, and his sister: Linda (Bill) Ryan of Massachusetts. Josie served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and returned to civilian life with an honorable discharge. He retired from 7D Wholesale in Gallitzin where he worked as a laborer. Across his life and throughout his retirement years, he enjoyed perfecting his woodworking skills within his carpentry business. His life was enriched with time spent with his treasured friends. At Josie’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Committal will be at St. Patrick Cemetery. A private memorial service would be held at the convenience of the family.
