It is with fond memories that the Nepa family announces the death of Stephen Anthony (Reno) Nepa. Reno passed peacefully at home on July 21st with his wife, Melinda, at his side. He was 85 years old. Reno was born on September 11, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio and grew up in Cresson, Pennsylvania. In his years after high school, Reno played basketball in junior college and served in the Navy, stationed in Philadelphia in service of the decommission of USS Tarawa. After his service Reno began a career in the electronics industry with many years at Lundy Electronics in Charlotte, NC. After finishing his career in Birmingham Alabama, Reno served and worked for ministries in Pensacola, Florida and Pineville, Louisiana. In his twilight “third” career Reno served as a deputy sheriff both for the Rapides Parish Sheriff and the Alexandria City Marshall. All that knew him would agree that Reno had a compassionate, servants’ heart and THE most recognizable voice on the planet. His quiet presence, gentle spirit, soft words, quirky mannerisms, love of sweets and personal style (pioneer of the Kangol hat) are celebrated and dearly missed.
Reno was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Rose Nepa. He is survived by Melinda Harwood Nepa, his wife of 51 years, his son Stephen Mark (Kendell) Nepa, his daughter Jaime (Jay) Helms, his brothers Abram, Thomas (Karen) and Ronald (Fred) and grandchildren Naomi, Arabella, Nora and Simon. A Memorial services will be held at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Cresson, Pennsylvania on Saturday, August 13th at 10 am. and in Gastonia, North Carolina on Saturday, September 10th.
